After 7 years as an insatiable social dancer of Argentine tango,
Meredith Klein launched her professional career in tango in January
2006, when she began a 7-month tour of the US and Brazil with her
(now) husband, Andres
Amarilla. On that tour, Andres & Meredith taught in five
festivals (including Valentango, the DC Tango Marathon and TangoJoven)
and gave an additional 14 weekends of workshops, in cities including
New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Philadelphia and
Portland.
Andres & Meredith are best known for their ability to clearly
articulate the physical principles and technique that make any step
work—from the simplest walk to the cross to the most complicated
colgadas, ganchos and jumps. They are particularly sought out for
their teaching of alternative embrace vocabulary & technique.
Because they use traditional tango technique to execute complicated
“nuevo tango” steps, their dance is characterized by
a classic look and musicality.
Back at home in Buenos Aires, Andres & Meredith teach weekly
classes and perform in the milongas and practicas. They are currently
planning their 2007 schedule, which will take them to a festival
and weekend workshops in Europe, as well as back to the US and Brazil.
